If you’re in the Downtown Nassau area, the easiest way to reach the Graycliff Bahamas Chocolatier and cigar factory is by walking. It should take you between 10 and 15 minutes to get to the Heritage Village from the cruise terminal or a similar downtown location. Travelers staying at Atlantis, the Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort, or another hotel in the area should taxi. Doing so is the simplest way to reach the village. The Graycliff Hotel & Restaurant operates the Graycliff Bahamas Chocolatier, along with the other venues that make up the Graycliff Heritage Village.
Built in the 1700s, the hotel is one of the oldest structures in Nassau and has played an important role in the island’s history. From functioning as a private residence to becoming the luxury hotel it is today, its colorful history features figures as diverse as pirate captains to Sir Winston Churchill.
The hotel is on West Hill Street, as is the surrounding Heritage Village.
The Graycliff Bahamas Chocolatier is the best place in Nassau to learn about chocolate production. Besides getting a lesson into the origins of the sweet treat, you’ll also get to try your hand at making your own. As you don a chef’s hat, you’ll get to choose the type of chocolate you’ll want to make, as well as which flavors to add. Once you finish, you’ll have the chance to purchase additional chocolate in addition to the chocolate you made.
Whether you’re a cigar smoker or just looking to learn more about another Caribbean product, you’ll find a tour at the Graycliff Cigar Factory to be fascinating. In around ten minutes, you’ll learn about the history of cigar production and witness the hard work that goes into rolling each individual stick.
Consider picking up a box of cigars to bring home as a souvenir!
Besides the Graycliff Bahamas Chocolatier, you’ll find several other attractions worth visiting. Bahama Barrels is the first and only winery on the island, while the Humidor Churrascaria is an upscale restaurant.
Likewise, lovers of history won’t want to pass up on the Heritage Museum of the Bahamas.
