Travelers visiting the Bahamas on a cruise ship can enjoy an easy walk to the Graycliff Bahamas Heritage Village. It should take just around 10 minutes, giving you plenty of time to explore the museum and other nearby sites before needing to head back to the boat.
If you’re staying in Nassau, you’ll find a taxi to be the easiest way to reach the area unless you’re staying downtown. Thankfully, provided you travel with a reputable driver, most Nassau taxi rides are speedy and affordable.
The Heritage Museum of the Bahamas is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. You purchase tickets once you enter the building, with ticket rates at $18.50 for adults and $12.25 for children [as of 2023].
The Nassau Heritage Museum of the Bahamas is in the Graycliff Bahamas area. This is a street full of exciting attractions, all of which are in proximity to the Graycliff Hotel Nassau.
The museum’s collection is one of many Graycliff Bahamas highlights.
The hotel is a luxury property and is one of the only hotels located directly in Downtown Nassau. Set in a historic colonial mansion, guests can enjoy lush gardens, an upscale restaurant, and two beautiful swimming pools.
When you visit the museum and other Graycliff Nassau attractions, you’ll pass by the secluded hotel. If you’re looking for a place to stay and want to be right in Nassau, consider staying there!
The Age of Piracy is one of the epochs featured in the museum.
The Nassau Heritage Museum of the Bahamas is in the Mountbatten House, which is across the street from the Graycliff Hotel. Most of the pieces displayed in the museum are there because of Hamilton White, a British antique collector.
As you walk from room to room, you’ll come across artifacts from just about every epoch of Bahamian history. You can expect to see treasures and relics from the piracy era, plantation life, slavery, the Royal Air Force, the Out Islands, and much more. There’s even a 4.5 billion-year-old meteorite!
The museum houses a model chocolatier. There’s a real one outside in Graycliff Nassau!
In the museum, you’ll come across a chocolatier. Reminiscent of a simpler time, the model shop displays the type of antiques you’d expect to find in a 20th-century chocolate shop.
While you can’t purchase any chocolate there, you can in the Graycliff Bahamas Heritage Village. There’s a working chocolatier where you can learn about and mold your own chocolate. That, of course, includes plenty of sampling!
Outside of the museum and chocolatier, you can look forward to seeing several other exciting attractions in the area. From a winery and souvenir store to the Heritage Village Artists Studio, you can easily spend a couple of hours poking around from site to site.
The museum is a great place to learn about the Bahamian festival, Junkanoo.
